Learning to ski at 40? Why it’s never too late to learn a new skill

If you’re somewhere near your forties and thinking about starting out in skiing, you may well be wondering whether you’re having a mid-life crisis. Trust us; you’re not! A recent study shows that skiers in the age bracket of 45 – 64 are taking regular skiing holidays, so your timing is perfect! If you’re thinking about making 2020 the year for starting out skiing, find out below why learning to ski as an adult can be as much fun (and just as easy!) as it is for children.

Can you learn to ski at any age?

The short answer is yes. When we look at a middle-aged adult’s ability to learn any new skill and compare this ability with young adults (>12 years), there are very few differences. We are equally as well suited cognitively and physically as a youngster. The biggest difference between starting out skiing as a teenager and learning to ski as an adult, is the fear of falling. Children have the inevitable feeling of invincibility; in adults, that fear of falling is the key obstacle that holds us back. So, you are totally capable of learning to ski at 40, you just have to approach it like you would have done when you were young and fearless!
