Ask the Experts at Chill Factore

It turns out you have some burning questions for the team at Chill Factore. So we opened up the mailbox and grabbed a few that seemed to be the most popular. If you like, we’ll answer your questions more regularly to keep you completely up to speed on all things ski, snow and snowboard. Take a look at our answers to some of your most frequently asked questions.

What age can you take a child skiing?

You can take a child skiing at Chill Factore from age 3. In fact – our trainers recommend starting your kids young, so they can get used to the snow early on in life. Our Kids’ Snow School lessons are open for children as young as 3 and helps them through various stages of progression.

These first sessions are called Ski Penguins, and will give your little ones a chance to find their snow feet, learn how to put on their own skis, master balancing techniques and side step on the snow. There’s even a fun course through Mini Moose Land included as part of the three-week plan. Following Ski Penguins, there’s a few other courses for your kids to complete, before moving onto more advanced lessons.

Kids’ Snow School

  • Ski Penguins Stage 1 (3 years)
  • Ski Mini Mooses Stage 2 (4-6 years)
  • Ski Polar Bears Stage 3 (7-12 years)

How many ski lessons does a beginner need?

To master the basics, we recommend approximately 8 hours on the snow, although this varies from person to person. During the lesson, you will be able to find your feet on the snow, master balancing techniques, develop your snow plough and learn how to link turns.

At Chill Factore, we offer various lesson plans to suit your schedule. So if you’d like to learn how to ski in a day, you can do so with our one day course. Equally, your ski lessons can be split across 2 days or 3 weeks, allowing you to learn at your own pace. Following the beginner course, you can sharpen and practice your skills with our improver lessons and developer lessons – taking you to the top of the main slope and starting to work on parallel skiing.

What do you wear to the Chill Factore?

It’s pretty cold out on the snow, so we recommend you wear the following:

  • Thick socks
  • Gloves
  • Clean Wellies or walking boots
  • Warm waterproof clothing

For snow based activities, such as skiing or snowboarding, you can also hire some key pieces:

  • Waterproof jacket
  • Waterproof trousers
  • Snow play boots (Snow Park & Mini Moose Land)
  • Helmets
  • Skis
  • Poles
  • Snowboard/Ski boots
  • Snowboards

How much do skiing lessons cost?

Our Taster Ski Lessons start at just £27 (off peak) for a group of adults. A taster lesson will give you a little flavour of what it’s like to strap yourself into a pair of skis for the first time. You’ll get to grips with the equipment, develop your balance, improve your coordination and learn how to move around on the snow.

Following that, there are a few more lesson plans you can move on to: - Beginner Ski Lesson Courses start at £87.50 - Improver Ski Lesson Courses start at £99.00 - Developer Ski Lesson Courses start at £99.00

Has Chill Factore changed its name?

We have absolutely not changed our name (although we do get asked this a lot!) Chill Factore is still Chill Factore – home to the UK’s longest indoor snow slope. The sign you may have seen on the side of the iconic slope-shaped building just off the M62, is the name of the building itself - Beyond.

Beyond is home to Chill Factore, The Climbing Wall, Bodo & Layke restaurant, Nandos, The Lift Up café, Crystal Ski and Snow & Rock. We’re all operate totally separately but we live under the same roof – just like the stores and restaurants over at INTU Trafford Centre.
