FAQs

What classifies as a group/schools booking?

Any group, which is from an educational authority, youth group or sports team.

How large can my group be?

We can generally cater for a maximum of 120 people per group dependant on the activities required.

If you have a large group, we would recommend participating in a range of activities so that we can rotate the group in small teams on different activities in the building:

Quotas are as follows:

Snow Park: 70 persons per hour

Climbing: 20 persons per hour

Ski/Snowboard Lessons: 30-60 persons per hour (30 in winter, 60 in summer)

Sub Zero Challenge: 120 persons per hour

Activity Day: 92 persons per day

How many people take part in a group lessons?

Lessons have a very strict limit of 10 persons per lesson. Therefore we are unable to process groups in the small teens such as 11, 12 or 13 etc. as the additional people will require a second instructor. (Group of 10 persons and Group of 3 persons)

Therefore please aim to fill groups of 10 when booking lessons and courses.

How early should I book my visit?

As long as we have availability, we will work to be able to deliver an amazing experience for your group. Our system does work on a first come basis, which is why it is important to sign and return your booking form. Please be aware that our peak season runs from December through to March each year in line with the Ski season.

What dates and times can I book for our visit with Schools and Groups rates?

Midweek (Monday through to Friday). You can of course book outside of these hours however a surcharge may be applied.

What time should we arrive before our activities?

We would advise arriving around 45 minutes prior for Snow Park and Climbing and around 60 minutes prior for Lessons. Please bear in mind, that if you are bringing a large group all for one specific activity, such as lessons, it will take around an hour to get large groups fully kitted up in equipment.

What do I wear?

Sorry to state the obvious, but it is cold on the slopes though for those active on the snow you’ll soon warm up.

You can bring your own suitable clothing to wear i.e. waterproof jacket and trousers or you can hire them here by pre-booking or on arrival (subject to availability).

Hire of thermal waterproof coats and trousers can be pre-ordered at reduced rates.

Gloves and Socks can be purchased for £5.00 and are yours to keep after the visit

You’ll need thick socks and gloves (compulsory) and you may wish to wear a hat. Don’t worry if you have forgotten any of those as you can buy those here.

What else is here?

Lots!

For food and refreshments we have a range of restaurants and outlets to cater for all tastes and Alpine Street offers an indoor shopping experience with a slant towards skiing and snowboarding clientele.

For spectators we offer a free viewing balcony and there is free Wi-fi available for all guests.

In 2010 we won the Manchester Tourism ‘Access for All’ award which recognises excellence in accommodating the needs of guests with disabilities.

Accessibility

Chill Factore is the North of England base for Disability Snowsport UK and is fully equipped for people with disabilities.

Detailed information is available within the Access Statement on the range of Chill Factore facilities, services and access.

What equipment is provided?

For Snow Park;

  • Snow boots are available at a cost when booking, however wellies can be worn as long as they are clean.

For Ski lessons;

  • We provide Skis, boots and poles (if required) and helmets free of charge.

For Snowboard Lessons;

  • We provide Snowboard, boots and poles (if required) and helmets free of charge.

For Lift Passes;

  • Skiing or Snowboarding equipment and helmets are included free of charge.

Can Staff members participate in the activities?

Staff can participate on lessons if spaces are free, however the students have priority within the activities to fill the 10 spaces. The staff member would need to pay for their place on the lesson, this is not provided free of charge.

Young people do not require supervision whilst on a lesson and therefore no free passes will be given out for accompanying adults on lessons.

If your group are on lift passes or Snow Park, supervisory passes can be arranged for adults on a 1:10 student ratio. Lift passes are only granted for supervisory purposes and are not a leisure pass for staff to privately ski without their group.

When does payment need to be made?

Payment is required two weeks before the activity date, and can be paid by BACs transfers, cheque or card. You will not be allowed onto your activities until payment has been made or remittance advice received.

Making changes to a booking

Changes can be made to a booking, if they are made 28 days before the date of the activity. The booking is non-refundable 28 days before the date of the activity and any requests for changes may not be able to be accommodated.

Last minute cancellations must be paid in full, so please bear this in mind when finalising your numbers or looking to cancel a trip. All empty spaces must be paid for.

Changes to the date of the visit cannot be made less than 28 days prior to the visit and are subject to availability. If there is no availability for the date to be changed, the original date must be honoured.

Additional Information for groups, schools, parties and corporate

We recommend that every member of your group has been given information in advance of the activity they are taking part in.

We suggest you arrange to meet as a whole group at a designated meeting point on Alpine Street, that way your organiser can collect ALL tickets from the Guest Services desk and check that these tickets match the activities booked. Distribute the tickets to your group members as they will need these to pass through the turnstiles to gain access to the slopes.

As a group, make your way through to the Changing Village. If you are having multiple lessons or activities people should stay together in the appropriate group.

Group changing facilities are available if you wish to book these in advance. Please email or call your Chill Factore group coordinator for further information.

After your activity, why not meet up with your group for an après ski drink or meal on Alpine Street.
