How to practise snowboarding at home

How to practise snowboarding at home

Looking to take up a new hobby in the post-lowdown months? Snowboarding could be the one for you. Fast, fun and exciting, snowboarding is a pastime that will build muscle, improve your core strength and give you an incredible thrill, all at the same time. However, snowboarding is a skill that takes time and practise to master, so in between your snowboarding lessons, you may be wondering how to practise snowboarding at home. The experts at Chill Factore are here to help with this article all about why you should practise snowboarding at home and how you can boost your snowboarding progress.

Why should you practise snowboarding at home?

Learning how to snowboard is different for everyone. Some will be able to pick it up quickly and easily, but for others, it’ll take hours of practice and patience to get to grips with the core strength and balance needed to be an expert snowboarder.

Spending time at home practising snowboarding can give you an edge when you get to the slopes as you’ll be ahead of the game. You can do a few things to practise snowboarding at home that will boost your power, strength, balance, and endurance - all important elements of mastering the art of snowboarding.

How to practise snowboarding at home

So, how to practise snowboarding at home? There are a number of ways you can practise, all of which will help to advance your snowboarding skills:

  1. Build muscle power by training your lower body, including quads, glutes, thighs and calves
  2. Increase your stamina by doing regular cardiovascular workouts
  3. Improve your core strength through exercises such as yoga and pilates
  4. Invest in a balance board to improve our balance.

Build muscle power

You’ll need a lot of lower body strength to become an expert snowboarder, so one thing you can do at home to practise is to plan workouts that will target your quads, thighs, calves and glutes.

Workouts that target the lower body can be completed at home without any extra equipment. Try doing lunges, squats, leg raises and step-ups. All of these exercises will strengthen the muscles in your lower body, giving you the strength you need to master snowboarding.

Increase your stamina

Snowboarding is an exhilarating and fast-paced hobby that will get your heart racing. By building your stamina, you’ll be able to snowboard harder and for longer. But how do you increase your stamina? Simple - you need to do exercises that’ll get your heart racing. Cardiovascular exercises such as running, cycling, power walking and swimming will make your heart work more efficiently, making you healthier while increasing your endurance. It’s a win-win!

Improve your core strength

Core strength is one of the fundamental requirements of becoming a competent snowboarder. If you don’t have core strength, you’ll struggle to stay on your snowboard, meaning there’s more chance of you injuring yourself when you do hit the slopes.

Core strength can be improved through exercises such as yoga or pilates, which help build and strengthen the muscles in your core. The stronger your core, the better your balance will be, and the more likely you’ll stay upright on your snowboard - an essential element of becoming a snowboarding champ!

Invest in a balance board

Balance boards are similar to cyclists' turbo trainers in that they’re a piece of equipment you can use at home to simulate the sport you’re wanting to practise, in this case, snowboarding. Balance boards are great at improving your coordination and balance, not only keeping your muscles fit - especially your glutes, calves, thighs and core abdominal muscles, but also boosting your balancing skills.

There are a huge number of balance boards out there on the market, and if you’re serious about becoming an expert snowboarder, then purchasing one can help you keep up with your training at home.

Now put what you’ve learnt into practise...

Once you’ve put in the leg work, it’s time to put what you’ve learnt into practice. Head down to Chill Factore and take advantage of our lift passes, giving you an hour or https://www.chillfactore.com/offers/unlimited-lift-pass/ to the UK’s longest indoor real snow slope.
